Reason for request: I wish to use the acquired data I requested, and compare said info with other schools in the CMA that provide student housing. I will also compare student housing unit costs per school and consider the unit specifics such as; square footage, amount of rooms, bathrooms and roommate situations. I will also factor in building rules, facilities, and cleanliness (if applicable). After doing this, I will research non-student rental properties residing within reasonable distances of UBC campuses and compare identical units and costs of living in said units. My goal is to provide reasonable information to current or future UBC students deciding to reside on campus during their studies. Whether or not it is within reasonable cost to reside on campus instead of finding non-student accommodation. I will go over the cost vs convenience comparison. as convenience is a main selling point to students deciding about residing on campus. I wish to uncover a reasonable justification of complaints about unit prices from current, past, and future UBC students.

Hi Sean, I actually feel like our school should should have hostels open all semester, holidays and all year long( with the high fees being paid) for all student and mostly international students rather then student housing with high rent and down payments.
ReplyDeleteHello. I like your reasoning behind your FOI request. I think if you were to send this request in and perhaps publish an article about it, this could really help current and future students. Some feedback for you would be formatting. For example, you have your information (the school address and phone number) formatted together, but the information for the Office of University council seems to be almost, if not, double spaced. I also think for clearer and less risk of confusion, your request sentence, "The (Domestic) cost of student housing units on campus (per semester) compared to the first, second, third and fourth-year cost of individual classes (per semester)from academic years 2021-2024." could maybe be changed to: "A spreadsheet that includes the cost of on-campus housing for domestic students per semester in comparison to..."
ReplyDeleteHi Sean, As a UBC student, I really think we need clear info about how much housing costs. It's super important for students, especially those from other countries. We need to compare living on campus with renting off-campus places. Knowing the balance between cost and convenience will help us see if it's worth it. This could really help students understand if they can afford to live on campus or not.
ReplyDeleteHi Sean, reading your FOI request was very interesting. As someone who is first university student and last year was looking to apply somewhere all information regarding the university is crucial especially since you are spending that much money.
